Newsletter - May 2026

Hello everyone, and welcome to the May Newsletter — a post-election special.

Firstly, a reminder of the members meeting Thursday 3rd June to approve the Draft Policies, which can be found on the website.

As the dust settles on elections across Scotland, Wales and England, it is clear that many people are looking for change. Voters are increasingly disillusioned with traditional party politics, and there is growing distrust of career politicians and the wider political system.
Much has been said about the Reform Storm and the decline of the traditional parties. Many people clearly feel they finally have an alternative to the long-standing “uni-party” system. You are better informed than that and will, like us, I am sure be waiting for the penny to drop that Farage & Co are simply the right wing of the Conservative party, and the (not-so) Green party are now the new Labour.
Others continue to vote around single issues such as nationalism or independence.
At Freedom Alliance, we believe people are searching for something different: honesty, accountability, common sense and genuine representation.
And we encourage people to look carefully beyond slogans and headlines before placing their trust in any political movement, however “new” it may appear.
What I have seen when campaigning is an electorate ripe for change, with an almost unanimous distrust of career politicians.
Many people feel politically homeless, unsure who truly represents them, and doubtful that politics can improve their lives at all.
That creates both a challenge and an opportunity.
So what can we do?

  • Continue having calm, constructive conversations with friends, family and colleagues.

  • Help answer questions and encourage people to think critically about what they are being told.

  • Support and encourage ordinary people to stand for election locally, so common-sense voices are heard consistently.

A huge thank you again to Mark and Ken for stepping forward and representing Freedom Alliance in these elections, and letting the voters in Paisley and Stourbridge know that there is a real alternative.

Why Democratic Participation Still Matters
The people’s dilemma over who to support saw around 45% of eligible voters either not voting or unable to vote in these recent elections.
For us, this group matters enormously.
Many people feel disillusioned by politics. Some believe nothing ever changes, others think all parties are the same, and many feel their individual vote makes little difference.
Understandable as these frustrations are, disengagement also has consequences, because politics does not stop when people switch off.

  • Laws still change

  • Taxes still rise or fall

  • Public services still improve or decline

  • Decisions still affect jobs, healthcare, housing and personal freedoms

The only difference is whose voices are heard.
Voting does not have to mean complete loyalty to a party or politician. It is simply a way to send a message and influence the future through democratic means.
Importantly, politicians tend to focus on the people who consistently participate.
When good people withdraw from the democratic process, politics naturally becomes more influenced by louder voices, wealthier interests and highly organised groups.
No democratic system is perfect, but meaningful reform has always depended on ordinary people staying engaged and continuing to participate — even when frustrated.

Ultimately, the future is shaped by the people who show up.

Your Help

  • We need your help to continue spreading the message that our freedoms matter and that positive change is still possible.

  • We encourage members to consider standing in local elections, even as paper candidates, and to have local conversations within your communities.

  • We believe more people will begin questioning the direction of mainstream politics and look for alternatives rooted in freedom, responsibility and common sense.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
